Most owners have a rough idea of what dockside care means, and it usually stops at a weekly wash-down. The rest tends to be a collection of separate vendors, a casual crew member, and a stack of invoices that never quite add up the same way twice. That is where the surprises come from, both in the budget and in the condition of the boat.
A monthly dockside care plan through Yacht Management replaces that with a set schedule and a known scope. Our dedicated service teams maintain your boat at your home dock or at any marina in the South Florida area, seven days a week, and the work is built around your customized plan rather than a generic checklist. This is what is actually in it.
What the Monthly Plan Covers
Every plan we write is customized to the vessel, but the monthly program is built on five core services:
- Complete detailing, including waxing, compounding, and buffing
- Wash-downs
- Interior cleanings
- Bottom cleanings
- Customized systems checks
How often each one happens depends on your boat, where it sits, and how you use it. A yacht that runs most weekends needs a different rhythm than one that sits for two months between trips.
Detailing, Wash-Downs, and Exterior Care
Salt and exhaust soot do steady, cumulative damage to gelcoat, topside paint, and stainless. Regular wash-downs pull that off before it sets, and drying surfaces properly keeps mineral spotting off glass and deck hardware.
Complete detailing goes further. Waxing, compounding, and buffing restore gloss and put a real barrier between your finish and Florida sun, which is what keeps gelcoat and paint from chalking and oxidizing between full refinish cycles. Left alone, UV exposure and salt also work on rubber hatch seals, window gaskets, and trim, and small water intrusions have a habit of turning into damaged joinery and wall panels.
Interior Cleanings
Interior care keeps the boat ready to use on short notice rather than requiring a day of prep before every trip. Our teams wipe down hard surfaces, vacuum, sanitize heads, and manage interior humidity, which is what protects woodwork and keeps damp odors from settling in while the boat is docked. If you are heading out on short notice, that difference is the whole point.
Bottom Cleanings
Divers clean the hull, running gear, and sea chests between haul-outs. Clearing barnacles and growth reduces drag, takes strain off the engines, and keeps bow thrusters and intakes working the way they should. Growth on the hull is one of the quietest fuel costs an owner pays, and it builds up faster than most people expect in warm South Florida water. It also keeps the boat honest at the next haul-out, since nobody wants to discover the state of the bottom on the day it comes out of the water.
Customized Systems Checks
This is the part owners tend to underestimate. Cosmetic care protects what you see; systems checks protect what actually gets you home. Our technicians work through manufacturer checklists on your main engines and generators, covering fuel lines, coolant levels, belt tension, and hose condition. We check fluid levels and battery voltage so the boat starts when you show up. On the electrical side, technicians inspect shore power cords, look for hot spots in breaker panels, and verify charger output, working to American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards for AC and DC electrical systems (American Boat and Yacht Council, n.d.). Bilge pumps, float switches, and high-water alarms get tested rather than assumed.
Air conditioning gets its own attention because it works hard in this climate and fails at inconvenient times. Technicians flush raw water strainers, clear drain lines, and test compressor cycles. Clogged strainers are one of the most common reasons marine air conditioning stops cooling, and they are also one of the easiest things to catch on a schedule.
The Service Team Behind the Plan
Our service personnel only work on boats in our management program. That is a deliberate choice, and it is why program clients are not sitting on a waiting list behind outside jobs. Our team includes ABYC-licensed professionals, and because the same technicians see your boat month after month, they learn its systems and quirks instead of starting from zero every visit.
Beyond the monthly plan, our mobile services cover:
- Engine service and repair, diesel and gas
- Generator service and repair
- A/C service and repair
- Electrical service and repair
- Navigation and AV service and repair
- Water maker service and repair
When a routine check turns up something that needs real work, our in-house technicians handle it. If the job needs the boat out of the water, it moves to our own Fort Lauderdale boatyard on the New River, where our 80-ton travel lift, bottom painting, propeller and shaft work, and refit crews are all in the same place.
One Manager, One Phone Call
Every boat in our program is assigned a dedicated yacht manager. They build your care schedule around vessel length, system complexity, and how you plan to use the boat, and they are the single point of contact for all of it.
Independent mechanics do good work on individual repairs. What they cannot easily give you is a consistent record across every system on the boat, and incomplete maintenance logs are a genuine problem at resale, when a surveyor or buyer has no way to verify what has actually been done. A managed plan produces that history as a byproduct of doing the work.
Owner-managed care or a full-time crew makes sense for plenty of vessels. A dockside program is the option that gives you professional technical coverage without carrying crew year-round.
